In-Hull Installation
A clean in-hull installation lets your Tuna Magnet transfer its full acoustic signal through solid fiberglass and into open water.
The mineral-oil layer removes air between the Tuna Magnet and the fiberglass, allowing low-frequency vibration to transfer efficiently into the water.
Set aside time for sealant curing before you fill and finish the installation.
Select a mounting location inside a solid fiberglass hull, below the waterline. This allows efficient acoustic transfer into the surrounding water.
Apply a continuous bead around the stainless steel mounting ring, leaving one small opening unsealed for the oil fill.
Press the unit firmly against the hull surface for full contact without trapped air pockets. Allow the sealant to cure as directed.
Use a small tube or syringe to slowly fill the cavity with clean mineral oil until all air is displaced and a small amount overflows.
Remove the filling tube and seal the remaining opening with marine-grade sealant to complete the acoustic coupling layer.
